‘A day at the beach’
Whether you’re after a day at the beach or a stroll along the shores of Cardigan Bay, Pwllheli has two fabulous award winning beaches to offer you.
Marian y De (South Beach)
This blue flag awarded beach is the town’s main beach. It is located to the south of the town where you will also find a promenade with great walking and cycling areas.
It stretches for 4 miles from east to west from Carreg yr Imbyll (Gimblet Rock) to Cerrig y Defaid, near LLanbedrog.
The beach is a blend of sand and shingle and being south facing, you get all day sunshine here during the summer months. It also boasts fantastic views right across Cardigan bay towards Abersoch and the Cambrian mountains of mid Wales.
But beware, the sea bed is fairly steep with the occassional stepped sea bed, so the water can become deep in a fairly short distance.
Car parking is available along the entire length of the promenade and there are two toilets, one at each end of the promenade.
Glan y Mor cafe is also located on the south beach end, offering selection fo refreshment and snacks and also a beach shop with sweets, ice cream and beach accesories to ensure that you get a great day at the beach.
Glandon / Abererch
Located east of the town, Glandon or Lan mor Berch (Abererch Beach) is regarded as a favourite amongst many locals. This is mainly due to the golden sand and shallow waters. The beach stretches for over 4 miles right across to Penychain near Haven Hafan y Môr.
South east facing, you get a good few hours of the day’s sunshine here but it is the views across to Snowdonia that will take your breathe away.
There is free parking available at the car park adjacent to Plas Heli.
Beach users are also granted access to use the toilet and washroom facilities available at Plas Heli. Here you will also find a cafe and restaurant that also serve takeaway food, refreshments and ice cream.
The beaches of Penrhyn Llyn
Further afield, you’ll be spoilt for choice to find a beach for you. The Llyn Peninsula boast some of the finest beaches in Wales.
